Slicemail

Support

Write to slicemail@enayatullah.com. Say which report, what you expected, and what happened. A screenshot of the sidebar or editor helps; leave out anything you do not want to share, and never send passwords. Replies come on working days, best effort.

Questions people ask first

Who gets which rows? Each email contains only the rows that match its group, picked by the rules in your template. The preview lists every email, who it goes to, and how many rows it carries. If a group has rows and no recipient, or a recipient and no rows, the preview says so before anything can be sent.

Does it send anything on its own? No. A send happens when you press Send and confirm. It refuses to send if the data changed after the preview you looked at.

Where is my data? In your own Google account. The add-on has no server and the publisher cannot see your spreadsheets or your mail. The privacy policy lists what it reads, writes and stores.

Why did it refuse to send? The messages say. The usual reasons: the data changed since the preview, today's email quota is too low for this report, another send is running, or a check found a problem (a formula error in a shown column, an email near Gmail's size limit).

Why is my email cut off at the bottom in Gmail? Gmail hides everything after about 102 KB. The preview warns near that size and blocks above it. Add TOP to the table, or link to the Sheet instead of pasting every row.

It stopped partway through a large send. Apps Script stops a run at six minutes. The add-on stops itself earlier, records how many emails went out, and continues from that count when you send the same preview again.

Can I change the look of a table? The add-on keeps the fill, text colour, bold, italic and alignment you set in the Sheet. Cells that look like the default take the add-on's own style.

Does it work with Outlook recipients? Mail is HTML with inline styles, which Outlook reads. Table colours and widths are worth checking with Send test to me once.

How do I remove it? Remove it from Extensions > Add-ons > Manage add-ons, and revoke access at <https://myaccount.google.com/permissions>. Delete the "Slicemail Log" tab and any demo tabs if you do not want them.

Writing a template

The editor builds most of a report through its form. This is the reference for what it writes, for when you edit a template as text. Each part starts on its own line.

LineWhat it does
[SUBJECT]The subject line. Tokens like {{DATE:Today-1}} work here
[TO], [CC]Who gets it: addresses, or rules over the people list like Role = Supervisor, Site = Harbor. A comma means or; AND narrows
[BODY]The email. **bold**, *italic* and lines starting - are kept
[ROSTER]The tab that lists people, if the report names its own
[LIMIT]The most people one send may reach
[EMPTY] SkipNo email for anyone whose tables have no rows

Tables. One clause per line, between [Table] and [/Table]:

[Table]
FROM: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/<id>, 'Sales'!A1:G
WHERE: Site = {{Site}} AND Date in Week-1
COLUMNS: Date, Orders, Revenue
SORT BY: Revenue DESC
TOP: 10
TOTAL: Orders, Revenue
[/Table]

Only FROM is required. WHERE keeps the rows that match, TOTAL sets the columns' sums as figures above the table.

Tokens.

WriteYou get
{{Site}}The person's value in that column of the people list. It also splits the report into one email per value
{{DATE:Today-1}}Yesterday, in the report's date format
{{RANGE:Week-1}}Last week, first day to last
{{DATE_FORMAT:Week-1 Start:d MMM}}A date in your own pattern
{{GREETING}}Good morning, afternoon or evening
$LINK:https://example.com, TEXT:the tracker$A link

Dates are a unit, an offset and an optional part: Today-7, Month-1 Start, Week Fri, Quarter+1 End. A range is A to B, like Today-7 to Today-1.
